The Experimental Music Study Group is an avenue for the exploration and performance of experimental music in Chapel Hill and Durham. Its founders are graduate students at UNC and Duke, and its participants include students, faculty, and local musicians. The EMSG meets regularly for book-group-style discussions of pre-circulated texts and music. Each meeting is typically followed by a performance by EMSG participants at a local concert venue. We also present residencies by prominent experimental musicians who will lead discussions and play with the EMSG.
We are always seeking new participants, and would love for you to be involved. (An interest in experimental music is the only requirement for participation. No musical background is required!) For more info and to keep up with upcoming events, please join our mailing list.
